Have you ever fallen in love on the dancefloor?
Have you ever fallen in love with a room full of strangers all at once?

SPACE: A Herstory is about queer spaces; the clubs, squats, cruising areas, support groups, the protests, the vigils. It’s about places that have gone before us, the memories that live in these places that no longer exist. What would queer spaces look like if our history was rewritten?

A story created from personal memories, remembered stories told by other people; a mixture of theatre, live-art & sound installation. It seeks to document a history which is at risk of being erased.

It’s a place for you; it’s a space for us to play, clown, drag and celebrate. It’ll be a place to come together.

SPACE: A Herstory is commissioned by Curious Arts, and supported by public funds from Arts Council England.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Dandysocpic is the “not-quite-drag” performer JG Tansley. They make stuff; mostly theatre that is gender-bent, unapologetically camp, heartfelt and unashamed. You might recognise them as part of ensemble company Camisado Club. When not stomping around in naff drag, JG is also a director and recently worked on Zoe Murtagh’s “Iconography” as part of Curious Festival 2018.

Organiser

Alphabetti Theatre

Alphabetti Theatre is based in Newcastle Upon Tyne and was created by Ali Pritchard in 2012. We create, produce, and programme new, original work from emerging artists across the performing arts, championing work in Music, Theatre, Comedy and Poetry. We strive to make theatre that is relatable and accessible to all, and are constantly looking for new ways to challenge ourselves, physically, mentally and conceptually – we believe that by challenging ourselves we inevitably challenge the audience, creating engaging and original experiences.
